Working with non-verbal children who used communication devices, speech-language pathologist Christina Hunger recognized that her dog Stella displayed the same pre-verbal milestones as toddlers learning to talk. This sparked a visionary question: “If dogs can understand words we say to them, why can’t they say words back to us?”

“The natural ability that dogs have to understand and communicate with us is truly incredible, going much deeper than just wagging tails and happy barks. I'm so thrilled that Christina is using her experience as a speech and language therapist to give dogs a way to 'speak' with us in a more complex, profound way.”

A Step-By-Step Guide to Button Training

Every dog owner has wondered: What is my dog thinking? New York Times bestselling author and speech-language pathologist Christina Hunger teaches you how to give your dog a voice through button communication, providing a window into their daily thoughts and feelings.

Everyone deserves to share their voice.

Even dogs! Your pet has thoughts, feelings, and observations they’re already trying to communicate through barking and body language. With our proven button system, you’ll finally understand what they’ve been saying all along.

You may be thinking...

“My dog could never...”

Dogs of all ages, breeds, and personalities have successfully learned button communication—from anxious rescues to senior dogs to independent breeds.

“They’ll just ask for food all day.”

Dogs quickly move beyond basic needs to express complex thoughts like "outside happy" when they see their leash or "love you morning" during cuddle time.

“I already know what my dog wants.”

You might be surprised when your dog starts commenting on the weather, asking about family members, or sharing feelings you never knew they had.

Your Dog Can Talk

A step-by-step guide on how to give your dog a voice through button communication, providing a window into their daily thoughts, requests, and feelings.

“When we are open to the idea that communicating with another species is possible, and provide a language-enriched environment, we create the space for shared language and a deep connection. Christina has provided the key that unlocks this potential for all of us.”

“When you think outside the box, you can come up with amazing results. Christina has shown that a dog has the cognitive capability to learn to use buttons as words and to formulate meaningful sentences. She also has very practical advice on how to teach your dog to do the same.”

Our Buttons in the Wild

My 3 yr old mini doxie is picking up fast! Recorded "go potty" "water" and "food" on three of them and she's picked up on water and food pretty fast! They're easy to use and recording your voice is super easy. Also easy for her to smash the button as well with her little feet!

—Brooke Monroe

I bought this for my 5 year old American bulldog, I was very hesitant that he wouldn't use these. Within the first two hours he was already interacting with them. Of course his favorite one is treat and bedtime. These really are amazing, while working from home he will usually hit the button for outside, and he runs to the door. Awesome product!!!

—Becky Richards

Yes!!! These are great! We purchased these at Christmas time and have had them less than a month. Easy to train my 9 year old dog to use them. Purchasing the mat next so the buttons can be stable on the floor. You speak your own commands in each button, so your dog hears the words in your voice. We used "Outside" "Treat" "Who's hungry?" and "Go for a ride?". Absolutely fabulous invention. Wish I had thought of this earlier!!
